Chapter 41 – Cycle and Begin Again (3)

The antimatter weapon programme announced its successful conclusion; even though its data had already been deliberately reduced, it still evoked marvels from the people. Henceforth, Area 3 stored one hundred small-sized antimatter bombs and ten large-sized antimatter bombs in the armoury, setting it as the highest authority level, which meant that only the Marshal and Madam Chen’s simultaneous access could open it.

After the programme was finished, the material shortage situation on the ship relaxed, and the metallic materials Area 5 could apply drastically increased, so a new batch of Skeletons was produced—the kind that was operated by implanting neuron microchips inside the brain.

Zheng Shu placed a small, silver low-temperature metal box in front of Lin Si.

Lin Si realised what was inside right away.

He opened the box and the cold air immediately rushed at his face. Inside the layered metal compartments, there were around a hundred electric shock chips lined up neatly, each one had a width of two millimetres. Their special material could allow them to immediately attach itself on the microchip’s biometal, fusing both materials into one.

Lin Si took one glance at them, felt uncomfortable, then closed the lid and pushed it aside.

Seeing his movements, Zheng Shu laughed helplessly. “I tested the effects you requested—at the very least it causes an hour of unconsciousness. It can’t be made weaker, but theoretically it won’t affect the human brain too much.”

Lin Si asked, “Did Marshal approve?”

“He approved,” said Zheng Shu gently. “Only Tang Ning and I know about this. I’ve also seen the control programme he wrote, and there absolutely won’t be any misjudgements. I’ll send it to you later.”

“Mm-hm.”

Electric shock would only be triggered upon two conditions—the simultaneous press of a button by Marshal and Madam Chen, or the programme’s judgement that the Skeleton’s action would result in devastating harm to the ship. Moreover, the shock was not fatal, so compared to the Marshal’s initial idea, this result was still acceptable.

“I might not stay on the ship for long,” said Lin Si.

Zheng Shu, who was keen, immediately noticed something. “You’re going outside?”

“What the Marshal meant was that everyone from “limitless” would be sent out on voyage, so I plan to apply to go together with them,” replied Lin Si.

The new voyage had been officially added to the spaceship’s agenda. Lin Si also let out a quiet laugh, then continued his work.

But he was thinking of what Zheng Shu said.

He knew his decision was rather reckless, but after finding out the entire body of Limitless was assigned to the Expeditioner, that became his first thought—there was no hesitation at all.

Indeed he seemed to dote on the child too much, but even if he stayed on the Voyager…he would not have anything meaningful to do either.

Zheng Shu handed his work over to Lin Si and left very soon after. The mechanical devices used to explore and open up planets were also Area 5’s responsibility, so even though the Skeletons were nearly complete in their development, and even Lin Si who had the most things to do had become leisurely, Zheng Shu was still very busy.

After the microchips were prepared, they began the implantation process.

Simple surgery equipment was set up in the training hall. A crowd of people excitedly gathered around—getting jabbed several times with probes every day was a painful thing, so they had been looking forward to the microchips for a long time.

The implantation process of the microchip looked simple, but in reality it was a very complicated operation. Fortunately, they were assisted by mini robots which made the task much more simple.

Then, the microchip would be placed into the body through the cut, and with the guidance of nanorobots, inserted into the central nervous system to establish a connection with the brain. Biometals had strong compatibility with human tissues, so they could coexist harmoniously with the human brains up to a whole lifetime.

To implant the microchips, one needed to open a one-centimetre cut on the back of the neck. If they wanted to take it back out, they needed to open up the neck again, so the Marshal was not concerned about people tampering with the microchips.

Ling Yi was afraid of having a hole cut on the back of his neck, so like a cat, he sat on the shoulder of a Skeleton and simply observed from the edges. Until the final person had successfully implemented the microchip, he finally jumped down and plodded to Lin Si’s side.

Lin Si closed the low-temperature metal box with a slam and locked it. “Classmate, you’re late.”

Svena let out a snicker. Looking over to this side, she was no longer in a hurry to test the Skeletons.
