Diary of a Dead Wizard - Chapter 22
Chapter 22 The Necessity of Having Specialties
Sol successfully got the job of being responsible for the third process in the morgue, but the price was that the maid lost her throat.
Sol also got a leather robe from Kaz.
It was a bit stuffy to wear, but he didn’t have to be careful of splashing blood and flesh all the time, and it was very convenient to clean.
Kaz asked Sol to work in the morgue between three and seven every day. But things here cannot be taken out, including corpses.
Sol no longer has to go to the laboratory, where he can’t do anything or learn anything.
If he submits more materials, he can get extra rewards – Kaz believes that Sol’s ability has exceeded the reward of 3 credits, so he added dividends to the fixed salary to encourage Sol to work hard.
This is already a very high salary for a first-level apprentice.
Normally, a new apprentice is considered a formal first-level apprentice only after mastering all the basic knowledge.
In addition to getting a few credits by passing the monthly test, the rest depends on the apprentice doing the work assigned by the mentor to earn more credits.
Although the Gorza Wizard Tower is tall, there are still limited jobs suitable for apprentices inside it.
Safer jobs generally range from 1 to 3 credits per month, while dangerous jobs may be 4 to 7 credits.
Especially for jobs worth 7 credits, even senior first-level apprentices may die.
Without some means of saving their lives, ordinary people dare not take it.
Sol’s job is not without danger.
According to Teacher Kaz, a corpse has been screened twice before it is sent to Sol. The
person in charge of the most dangerous first round is a second-level apprentice, who will try his best to eliminate the danger on the corpse.
The person in charge of the second round is a senior first-level apprentice who has mastered the basic knowledge of wizards and knows several 0-level witchcraft. He can protect himself and can also screen most of the useful materials on the corpse.
Sol relied on his unexpected ability to pick up corpses and was lucky enough to get the third round of work.
Although the third round is less dangerous, it also earns less, but if you can be as efficient as today every time, it is not impossible to get 6 credits a month.
This is the importance of specialties.
Teacher Kaz didn’t understand. Obviously, Thor’s perception of dark elements was not strong, and even not up to standard. Why was he so sensitive to abnormalities on the dead?
He could only attribute it to the fact that Thor was born to be more sensitive to spirits. He
had a low perception of dark elements but was sensitive to spirits. In other words,
he was more likely to see ghosts. Thor didn’t understand why he could see all kinds of strange visions through meditation, but it didn’t matter if he didn’t understand. It didn’t prevent him from using it.
He could communicate with Keli when he had time. Would different meditation diagrams bring different effects? Would the meditation speed also be different?
As a newcomer, everything still needed to be explored, and the mentors and seniors leading the way were obviously unwilling to provide free knowledge.
With the guidance of Teacher Kaz, Thor completed the first day’s work smoothly, and by the way, he became familiar with the general layout of the corpse room on the third floor.
Kaz, who successfully found the third worker, was in high spirits and also guided Thor.
He found that Thor’s spiritual talent was indeed excellent, and he was fast and accurate in learning runes. He was easy to immerse himself in meditation.
Even when learning Noah, Thor showed a good talent for language learning.
With this ability, he could make a name for himself in any ordinary profession.
But as a wizard, he has no magical talent, just like a weapon that cannot kill people. He can only become a plaything, driven and used by others.
Unless he can have some adventure or wait for an opportunity to transform his wizard body.
But even the second-level apprentices have a high mortality rate for wizard body transformation, how many chances does a first-level apprentice have to succeed?
The hope is slim, almost nothing.
Kaz’s interest in teaching came and went quickly.
Soon, he left Thor alone in the morgue and warned him that he must leave the second floor of the East Tower before 8 o’clock in the evening, and it is best not to stay in the East Tower.
Thor respectfully saw his mentor off, closed the door, turned around and walked to the conveyor belt.
He had a mental struggle.
Now he was the only one here, and it still took courage to pull down the wrench to welcome the corpse.
Thor’s hand was on the wrench for about a minute. Then he suddenly pulled it down.
The conveyor belt rumbled, but no new corpse appeared after turning for a long time.
Thor felt strange and pulled it again.
Still nothing.
Just when Thor was feeling anxious and wanted to pull the trigger for the third time.
A man’s voice came from the exit of the black tassel.
“Don’t pull it, there’s no more today.”
“Got it.”
“Pay attention to the light on the window. If it turns white, it means there’s stock.”
“Uh, thank you, senior.”
There was indeed a small candle lamp on the exit of the black tassel, and its appearance was no different from the others around the wall.
But when all the candlesticks were emitting bright white light, this candle lamp was dim and weak, almost going out.
Instructor Kaz didn’t tell Thor about this, probably because he was not responsible for the specific work here, so there were some omissions in the procedures.
Without work, Thor didn’t want to stay here any longer, so he left in a hurry.
When he left, the big man at the end of the corridor was still sitting there, like a dead man.
But Thor noticed that his nostrils moved.
He was alive.
The second day of becoming an apprentice passed smoothly, and it was much more comfortable than the first day.
During class on the second day, Thor found Keli.
“Now I have ten magic crystals.”
“Pay back the money.”
Keli stretched out her left hand.
“Do you want one credit or ten magic crystals?”
Keli looked at him with wide eyes. “Did you get a job?”
Thor nodded.
“I also heard from my instructor yesterday that in addition to passing the test and getting credits, apprentices can also take up some positions in the wizard tower and get credits.” She held her chin, “But my instructor didn’t let me find a job, only let me study. I don’t have a single credit now.”
You are not allowed to work because you can pass the test smoothly without working.
Thor felt a little bitter, but he quickly suppressed these slight discomforts.
“So do you want credits or magic crystals?”
“Of course it’s credits.” Keli wanted to pounce on him, “Damn it, I haven’t seen what credits look like.”
Credits are not coins in your hands, so they can’t be traded face to face in class.
They need to go to the registration room next to the library on the ninth floor of the East Tower to transfer the credits to Keli.
They quickly turned their attention back to studying.
In the second meditation class, instructor Monica did not show up, and was replaced by a female second-level apprentice. She explained some new knowledge and then began to meditate on the podium.
All the apprentices who wanted to ask questions with magic crystals were glared back by her with cold eyes.
So the rest of the class became a self-study class.
Without anyone to teach, some apprentices began to huddle together and discuss with each other, and the classroom gradually became noisy.
Keli still sat next to Thor.
Thor looked at the walking figure of the monster in his book, and his heart moved, remembering the question from yesterday.
“Keli, which picture are you meditating with?”
“The secret flower on the third page.”
“Can you now meditate independently without the crystal ball?”
“Of course not. The instructor said that if you can meditate independently, your mental strength will basically reach the level of a second-level apprentice.” Keli was a little surprised, “You can already meditate independently?”
Thor shook his head, “You can only enter a confused state similar to half asleep and half awake. There is no way to absorb elemental particles, but you can stabilize your mental state.”
“Very powerful.” Keli gave a thumbs up without hesitation, “If I meditate without the crystal ball, I can only see a mess of lines.”
She leaned over, “Which meditation picture are you using? Is the progress of meditation related to the meditation picture?”
“The picture of walking monsters on page 17.”
“…” Keli looked over in confusion, turned back to flip through her book, and turned back, “Are our books different? Why don’t I have this page?”
