Diary of a Dead Wizard - Chapter 25
Chapter 25: Doing Business and Ending at the Morgue
A new day, one o’clock in the afternoon.
Hayden, a senior first-level apprentice, walked into the second morgue in silence.
He glanced at the teleportation platform, the candlelight on it was dim.
There was still no work today.
This was a good thing.
He had been dealing with corpses for three years.
This job was disgusting in itself and disgustingly boring to him.
But he had to do it. If he didn’t do this job, he would have no idea how to pass the monthly tests.
There were fewer and fewer first-level apprentices entering the wizard tower with him.
A few successfully advanced to the second level, a few died in the test, a few died in the study, and a few persisted in obscurity like him.
So, even though he was extremely tired of this job, Hayden still couldn’t give up it.
There was no work today, Hayden walked to the table against the wall and flipped through the books casually.
But he quickly put the books back.
He had read these books many times, and they couldn’t help him advance to the second level.
“Actually, if you think about it this way, it’s not bad not to be promoted to level 2.” Hayden looked at the next door. “The first step of handling corpses is already being done by a level 2 apprentice. If I didn’t have this job, I would probably be like other level 2 apprentices, worrying about whether I can pass the test every six months , right ?”
Thinking of this, Hayden was in no mood to read.
He walked to the conveyor belt and suddenly wanted to lie on it to try.
But just when he had one leg on the conveyor, the door was knocked.
He was startled and his hand almost missed. Who would come to this place at this time? Could it be the newcomer from yesterday? Hayden raised his chin and walked to the door unsteadily. ”Who is it?” ”I’m a level 2 apprentice, Sid.” Hayden’s chin and shoulders immediately shrank together. He quickly opened the door and saw the impatient blond young man through the crack in the door. The scarlet door opened a crack and Hayden hurried out. ”Senior, are you looking for me?” Hayden and the disgusting stench of the corpse room came out together. Sid frowned and took two steps back. Seeing this, Hayden quickly turned back and closed the door. ”I heard that a newcomer has taken over the job in the morgue?” ”Yes, a noisy little boy.” ”How is he doing?” ”This… I haven’t seen it yet, it should be okay, right?” Sid sneered, “How well can a newcomer do? Besides, my junior also wants to do this job.” ”Huh?” Hayden looked up in surprise. ”Can you think of a way to make this job available for him?” ”Make it available?” Hayden retracted his hands in embarrassment, his eyes swaying around, “But the work in the morgue is assigned by Professor Kaz.” ”When this job is available, I will naturally let my junior fight for it.” Sid rubbed his fingers, his fingertips slightly deformed, and fine white powder fell. ”Then, then I will go and persuade that newcomer?” Hayden asked tentatively. ”Heh,” Sisso laughed with an ambiguous tone, “If you do a good job to my satisfaction, I will give you a Midnight Ghost Feather.” ”Ah!” Hayden straightened up completely, his eyes wide open, “I, I… I will definitely let that kid…” Suddenly! ”Did you do business in the morgue?” A deep voice interrupted their conversation. Hayden and Sid looked at the end of the corridor at the same time. ”Is it the second-level apprentice in charge of the morgue?” Sid narrowed his eyes, “He came so early? I’m afraid we’ll have to bleed more this time.” However, when the person who spoke came out of the darkness, Sid’s pupils shrank suddenly. Hayden, who was standing next to him, almost sat on the ground. ”Teacher, mentor…” The person who came out from the end of the corridor was not a second-level apprentice, but mentor Kaz.
Sid was stared at by Kaz, and his heart trembled. However, thinking of the style of Kaz’s past, he said with a stiff face: “Master Kaz, we are just…”
Kaz raised his hand and interrupted Sid, “I don’t care what you are doing.”
Sid felt relieved, he knew that the master would not care about the apprentices.
However, Kaz’s next words made Sid almost sit on the ground.
“Recently, many servants and apprentices have died in the tower. You go out and bring back a dozen seedlings from the outside world.”
Sid’s heart trembled, trying to turn around, “Okay, Master Kaz, when I finish the test next month, I will…”
“Next month? It’s this month! You leave tomorrow, no, before tonight!”
Kaz stared. He was not tall, and when he looked angry, the other two apprentices immediately felt that they were pressed into a crack in the stone by his momentum.
“Teacher Kaz,” Sid was no longer arrogant and domineering, with cold sweat on his forehead, “I have a test next month. If I leave the tower now, I may not be able to get back in time.”
Kaz faced Sid and said unmoved: “You have to understand one thing.”
“All the servants, maids, and apprentices in the wizard tower are the property of the tower master, and you,” Kaz pointed his wrinkled index finger at Sid, “You have caused losses to the tower master, so naturally you need to compensate.”
Sid opened his mouth, but couldn’t say a word.
A drop of sweat slid down from his temple, fell to the ground, and broke into several petals.
…
Thor learned that Sid had left the tower the next afternoon.
The person who told him was still Teacher Kaz.
“Senior Sid?” Thor’s face was a little pale.
He pressed his hand on the book he had just copied, his fingertips contracted, and the light yellow paper was gathered into a wrinkled ball.
“But why did he… want to harm me?” Thor shook his head in confusion.
“You need to figure it out yourself.” Kaz took out a book and threw it on the table.
Thor looked down and saw a thin silk book.
“Corpse Transmutation Guide”.
It was the first time he had seen a book made of cloth.
“I see that you, uh, have good talent. Take this book and read it. If you don’t understand, you can ask me.” Kaz glanced at Thor’s reaction and turned away.
Thor picked up the book.
A wizard book that was not a textbook cost at least two magic crystals a day, and the value of a guide was much higher than cognition.
Teacher Kaz gave him a lot of magic crystals.
“Teacher is really nice.” Thor said, and chuckled.
He put “Corpse” aside first, restrained the smile on his lips, and carefully smoothed the book he had just wrinkled.
“Chi~”
There was a light sound, and Thor looked over when he heard the sound.
The candlelight on the conveyor platform turned bright white.
Thor walked over and pulled the wrench hard.
The black conveyor belt rolled, and a fresh corpse covered with black leather came out from under the tassel.
This time the deceased was a stranger, and died more peacefully.
Thor lifted the black leather, and sure enough, the corpse was also relatively intact.
This was the first time he handled it independently.
Thor put himself into a semi-immersive state of meditation.
Although the walking monster diagram was inserted by Sid in an attempt to kill him. But Thor was unexpectedly suitable for meditating with this diagram.
Besides, since the hardcover book didn’t say anything, he could continue to use it!
Thor touched the tools on the table behind him.
The corpse swayed gently, and in a trance, the person lying on the teleportation platform turned out to be Sid.
Thor closed his eyes and returned to reality.
“I have a month now, but when Sid comes back, I’m afraid there will be a more fierce counterattack.”
Although the crisis was not completely resolved, it gave Thor a chance to breathe.
“Now it seems that as long as I am still useful, I can seek certain protection. I still need to make myself more useful.”
While working, Thor glanced at the “Corpse Transformation Guide” given to him by Kaz.
Suddenly, he stopped what he was doing.
“Corpse transformation… Is there any connection with witch body transformation?”
