Chapter 54: Byron the Accountant

Jenna was startled, and quickly retracted her waving hands to her chest.

Two names lingered in her mind.

“It was Keli, she said, she asked me to come to you at three o’clock.” She blurted out one of them.

“Before Keli, who mentioned me?”

“Du, Duke also said so.” Jenna’s voice became lower.

Duke?

Saul raised his eyebrows. He didn’t expect Duke to get involved.

As for the extent of his involvement, it depends on the subsequent developments.

“Didn’t you say that a second-level apprentice reminded you?” Saul urged impatiently.

This time Jenna really hesitated.

Senior Sid helped her, but also warned her not to mention him to outsiders, otherwise it would bring him a lot of trouble.

Jenna was very grateful to Senior Sid. The other party was equivalent to saving her life, and she didn’t want to cause trouble to others.

“Are you still playing mysterious when asking for help?” Saul sneered and decided to leave Jenna alone.

He took a step back, as if he was about to close the door.

“Wait, I’ll tell you!” Jenna was immediately anxious when she saw this. She changed from sitting to crawling and took two steps forward. “Yes…”

“Pop!”

A crisp sound like a giant stick hitting a watermelon sounded.

Jenna’s head exploded in front of Thor.

Something splashed over.

Thor had no time to react. He could only close his eyes, raise his arm, and lean back.

After a moment, Thor put down his left hand, and there were mottled bloodstains on his sleeve.

He looked at the girl in the red dress lying on the ground, and he didn’t feel too surprised.

“Dozer, Rocky, and so many others have participated in the mutual aid meeting, but only you were reminded to discover the parasite. It’s a pity that there are very few good people in this wizard tower, and the one you met is obviously not one of them.”

The big man curled up at the entrance of the corridor did not react to what happened here, and he was motionless like a corpse.

The second door next door opened gently, and Hayden’s face flashed behind the door. After seeing Jenna’s body, he immediately closed the door.

And the next moment, someone came out from the depths of the dim corridor.

Byron glanced at Jenna on the ground casually, then turned to look at Thor, “Hmm?”

No one cared about the corpse on the ground, and the living person standing in the corridor was thoroughly examined with magic.

“Hmm.” Byron took a step back, shook his head, and told Thor that there was nothing wrong with him.

Thor took off his coat and wiped the blood and flesh that splashed on his cheeks and arms.

Looking up, Byron was taking out a small notebook from his mouth and drawing on it with a pen.

The book recorded the credits that Byron owed Thor. Whenever he did something for Thor, he would consciously deduct the credits he owed.

This was also what Thor admired about Byron.

It was very rare for a person to be able to distinguish between gratitude and resentment and exchange equal value.

Thor stared at the red dress on the ground that was more gorgeous because of the blood, and frowned.

“Hmm?”

Thor shook his head gently, “I don’t feel guilty.”

Thor always thought that he was the only one who was unlucky. After entering the wizard tower, he always hovered on the edge of death.

Now it seems that there are many people who are more unlucky than him, and other people are not living in a carefree world.

Thor at least has a foreknowledge of death, but Jenna probably didn’t know what happened to her until the moment before she died.

She thought she had seen the dawn, but she just fell into the abyss.

Byron looked indifferent. He had seen too many deaths.

The girl’s body gave him more of a feeling: who else is starting to challenge the rules of the tower master without knowing the consequences?

“Huh?”

When Byron scanned Jenna’s body, he suddenly found something and walked over to check.

After a moment, he suddenly took a step back and threw out a black mist in his hand. The black mist swallowed Jenna completely like a giant python.

The body bulged high in the black mist, and then made a harsh sizzling sound.

There were some thin strips of things attacking the black mist from the inside.

The black mist was constantly lifted up and fell down, and it felt like it would be pierced at any time.

But in the end, the black mist won.

Its form no longer changed, and it continued to tightly wrap the girl inside.

Byron waved his hand, and the black mist evaporated.

Jenna’s body appeared in front of the two again. The exposed part made Thor take a step back and quickly threw away the coat in his hand.

Jenna’s body had countless blood holes, and her whole body was like a hornet’s nest, without a single piece of intact skin.

The blood seemed to be swallowed by something, and there was not much on the ground. The originally bright red dress also became tattered.

“What is that?”

“Swish–“

Byron did not answer immediately, and the sound of writing came from the other side.

Sol turned his head and saw that the other party actually took out paper and pen and started to deduct the credits owed. After

Byron finished writing, he stabbed himself reluctantly.

“Out-of-control parasites, things used by the mutual aid society to control newcomers. Normally, they will not attack the host. It has become like this. It is probably because someone has done something else to it.”

Byron walked forward, picked up a corner of the red dress, dragged the body to the morgue, and put it directly into the big box under the operating table.

“There are some things on it, like a curse, and also like a marking witchcraft. Don’t touch it.”

He took another look at Sol’s left hand hidden in his sleeve and added.

“The left hand is OK, but the right hand is not.”

But Sol did not intend to study parasites, and he did not want to touch the things of the mutual aid society.

Moreover, the person who tampered with Jenna was most likely Sid, who was hiding murderous intentions. Naturally, he would not put himself in danger because of curiosity.

What else was there on Jenna besides parasites?

“Senior,” Thor spread his hands, “If I had gone to check the body just now, would I have been attacked by parasites?”

“Yes, those parasites are very violent.”

The attack of parasites could be dangerous.

Although even if Byron did not show up, Thor had the diary reminder and would not really fall into danger.

Jenna, who was sent by Sid in a roundabout way…is this all useful?

“Then please help me take a closer look to see if there are other similar curses on me, or marks that do not seem to hurt the body.” Thor looked up at Byron and smiled, “You can deduct credits as you like.”

Byron was shocked when he heard this.

He narrowed his eyes and slowly rolled up his sleeves.

…

Jenna has been missing for three days.

Rocky searched all the places they had been to, but did not see any trace.

These days, Sol still did not come to class, and Rocky did not have the opportunity to question Sol.

That day, Duke only told Jenna the location of Thor. Rocky wanted to hear it, but was kicked out.

That was obviously his dormitory!

There was no way, and the anxious Rocky could only drag Dozer, who had a better relationship with Duke, to find Duke.

“Duke, Jenna has been missing for three days!”

“Oh.” Duke seemed indifferent.

Rocky was a little angry, “Why aren’t you worried at all.”

Duke smiled and spread his hands to Rocky, “Jenna obviously encountered some trouble when she went to find Thor. Maybe she is solving the trouble in the past three days. Why are you so anxious?”

“What trouble do you need to solve that you don’t show up for so many days?”

Duke was copying notes.

Books borrowed from the library are too expensive. Every apprentice races against time and copies day and night after borrowing books, just to return the books earlier and spend less magic crystals.

He said while copying, “I don’t know! I asked, but she didn’t want to say. Did Jenna tell you?”

Of course not.

Otherwise, Rocky would not be looking for it like a headless fly.

“Then can you tell me where Thor is? I’ll go find him.”

“Where Thor is…” Duke finally stopped writing, his mouth curled down, “That’s not a good place. If you have nothing to do, it’s better not to go there.”

As if feeling that he couldn’t copy the book properly because he was disturbed by Rocky, Duke simply put down his pen and looked up to comfort his friend.

“Although Thor is a bit cruel, you don’t have to worry about Jenna so much. After all, this is the wizard tower. We have the tower master and mentors above us. According to the rules, apprentices are not allowed to kill each other.”

These words sounded like comfort at first, but they were terrifying when you think about it.

Doze, who didn’t want to meddle in other people’s business, changed his expression and pulled Rocky’s sleeve.

Rocky shook Doze off and asked forcefully: “What do you want me to do to tell you where Thor is?”

Duke sighed and raised two fingers.

“Two magic crystals.”

Thank you all readers for your support.

The author is a part-time writer with an impressive writing speed. I will try my best to add one more chapter today to express my gratitude!
