Diary of a Dead Wizard - Chapter 97
Chapter 97 A Very Harmonious Town
n’t meddle in other people’s business?
Thor approached, “Ada, is there anything going on in your town?”
“…You’ll know later.” Ada didn’t explain and continued on his way.
Seeing that the other party was unwilling to elaborate, Thor had to follow him obediently.
As he got closer, he saw two doors opened on the town wall facing the main road.
A large door, supported by heavy wooden stakes, was half a meter higher than the wall.
A small door, more than two meters high, was very narrow.
At this time, the sky was getting darker and darker. The town gate was closed, and the small door was open.
At the small door, there was a cloth-armored soldier, holding an iron-headed wooden spear, leaning against the wall, yawning listlessly.
Thor looked around and didn’t see the second person dressed as a soldier.
“Ada, are there so few guards in your town? I remember that there is a border line next to it. Is it safe?”
Ada answered in a low voice, “In the past few years, our principality has always been at war with the Principality of Knas in the north. A wizard and most of the guards in the town have been transferred over for defense.”
“Ah?” Thor looked panicked, “Who will take care of the safety of the town?”
Thor’s voice seemed a little loud, causing the squinting soldier to look up at him.
Ada quickly pulled Thor aside and smiled at the soldier.
The soldier ignored them, nor did he collect the city entry tax that Thor imagined, and let them walk into the town.
After entering the town and walking a long way, Ada pulled Thor to stop on an empty street.
He frowned and looked at Thor, “There are subordinates of the wizard in the town. You should be more careful with your words in the future and don’t attract their attention.”
“I’m sorry.” Thor apologized honestly, “I have suffered a lot outside, and I just want to find a stable place to settle down. I am afraid that I will come here with great difficulty, but find that this place cannot be my home.”
Thor hung his head, looking depressed.
Ada on the opposite side saw Thor like this, and he couldn’t say anything with all his accusations.
He wiped his sweaty short hair and said helplessly: “If you have anything, just ask me when you get back. Don’t talk nonsense on the street.”
“Okay, okay.” Thor agreed.
But Thor has decided to come out to inquire about the news tomorrow morning.
After all, the gossip of the masses is a very important source of intelligence.
But in order not to affect this honest and kind Ada, he will try to find some suitable people to secretly inquire.
On the way afterwards, Thor behaved very honestly.
Ada looked back at Thor from time to time, and saw that he was obedient and didn’t run around and ask questions, and his expression was very satisfied.
Although it was getting dark, there were still many people on the streets of the town.
The wealthy families had already started lighting up the lamps, while the less wealthy families were speeding up their work, hoping to finish all the work before dark.
The adults, who had worked hard all day, began to prepare for sleep after dark.
The children were outside trying their best to delay going home.
Ada was very silent along the way, and he just nodded when he met someone who greeted him, unlike the man outside the town who would take the initiative to call out to a fellow villager he hadn’t seen for many years. It was not
until he turned into an alley that Ada’s tense shoulders slowly relaxed.
The path in this alley was very rugged.
It was incomparable to the main road of the town outside, and it was bumpy and difficult to walk. I don’t know if it had just rained, but some low-lying places had accumulated a lot of water, and stones were needed to prevent the cloth shoes from getting wet.
Thor also learned from Ada to step on the stones to move forward. But his footing was a little heavy, and the bottom of the stone was not flat, so a little water splashed, almost splashing the passers-by next to him.
After the passerby dodged, he first yelled “Be careful!”, but smiled when he saw Ada in front of Thor.
“Hey, Ada is back?”
“Aunt Jenny.” Ada smiled innocently.
Aunt Jenny had a basket in her arms and took out a bunch of red pointed peppers from it.
“This is what I just dried. Take it back and eat it with steamed buns.” She stuffed the peppers into the wooden basket that Ada was carrying, regardless of Ada’s refusal. “It’s not too spicy, Penny can eat it too. She should practice her mouth.”
Aunt Jenny smiled heartily.
Ada was honest and couldn’t refuse, so he accepted it embarrassedly.
Aunt Jenny turned her eyes to Thor, scanning him from head to toe with a smile on her face, “Are you here to visit relatives?”
Thor grinned and didn’t answer.
Ada quickly took over the conversation, “I’m from the same hometown. I couldn’t make it outside, so I came to live with me.”
This time, Aunt Jenny’s eyes were even more unscrupulous.
“You just came to the town… You look energetic, but a little thin. Remember to work hard, and you will get stronger.”
“Hey, hey.” Ada responded for Thor and hurriedly pulled Thor away.
They continued to walk forward, and a strong man with a beard came over with a thin old man.
It was a slightly cool early spring, and the strong man didn’t wear much.
His collar was open, revealing his strong chest muscles. He wore a machete on his waist, and from time to time he slapped the strong man’s thigh.
“Captain Jeff!” Ada greeted him enthusiastically this time, “You are helping to send the old madman back again.”
The tall and strong Captain Jeff lifted the little old man in his hand.
Ada quickly handed the hoe and wooden basket in his hand to Thor, and took the old man.
“The old madman went to the mayor again to tell him about his miserable past. If I hadn’t pulled him fast, he would have been beaten today.”
Captain Jeff’s hand seemed to be sore, and he rubbed his wrist while saying.
As if to meet the occasion, the old madman who was taken by Ada suddenly shouted loudly.
“Damn barbarians!”
Everyone was used to the madman saying this out of the blue.
Only Thor turned his head to look at it, but he felt that the old madman’s eyes were empty but not confused. He
didn’t look like a madman, but like a person who had lost hope of life.
“Then I’ll take him back. Captain Jeff, do you want to come in and have a drink of water?”
Captain Jeff waved his hand and turned away, “No, I have to go back to patrol.”
Ada watched Captain Jeff’s back leave with a warm smile.
At this time, the old madman shouted again: “You can’t trade with barbarians!”
The voice was miserable.
Sol noticed that Captain Jeff, who was leaving, paused, and his right hand seemed to subconsciously hold the scimitar on his waist.
But he didn’t look back, nor did he say anything, just kept holding the scimitar and walked away quickly.
Ada was only concerned about telling the old madman in his arms to shut up, and didn’t notice Captain Jeff’s strangeness at all.
“Forget it, Sol, put your things aside and come and help.”
The noisy old madman made Ada a little overwhelmed, so he could only ask the “thin” Sol for help.
Sol threw away the wooden stick in his hand, transferred the hoe and wooden basket to his right hand, and gently lifted the old madman with his left hand under his armpit – he lifted up the old madman who was about to slide to the ground.
“Uh…” Ada felt that the weight on his arm was much lighter, and looked at Sol in surprise, “You are quite strong.”
Sol said nonchalantly: “To make a living, I practiced.”
“Now I really believe that you have come all the way by yourself.”
Ada and Sol carried the old madman together and turned into a small courtyard.
The house where Ada lived was a narrow courtyard.
The yard was full of houses. Several hemp ropes were threaded through it, with underwear, outerwear, shoes, mattresses, wild vegetables, hemp ropes and all kinds of strange things hanging on them.
Through the scattered items hanging on the hemp ropes, the two saw a man with his butt sticking out, leaning on the wooden window of one of the houses, looking inside.
Ada saw this and immediately got angry!
“Jayce! You bastard, stay away from my sister!”
The third update!
