Chapter 16

If Xian Sheng said the truth, that’d be slapping his face. His subordinates were outside, so how could he tolerate the humiliation? Those that knew the truth would probably be killed by him as well.

Xian Sheng calmed down.

It wasn’t the time to fall out with him right now. He was still the Crown Princess of the North. Zhan Lue won’t give him up. As for Qin Yi…

He responded, “Because I’m unwilling.”

He looked at Qin Yi and said, “You forced me out of the palace before. The prince’s brother also had a bad impression on you. They were afraid of having nightmares when they were in laws with you.”

Qin Yi’s face was ugly, and Xian Sheng was leaning against the wall quietly. He was pale and delicate, which made people reluctant to touch him. Qin Yi squeezed his finger and said, “But then your father let go, but the letter was robbed by Zhan Zhen. He did it on purpose, and he knew I cared…”

“This doesn’t matter. What matters is that he gave back ten cities and let go of tens of thousands of hostages, as well as showing mercy to my second brother. Compared to you, leaving the Liang Country for your own selfish motives, and becoming king of a city, Zhan Lue was much more open and honest.” Xian Sheng’s tone was faint, and he didn’t forget to shift the blame on him. “Had you sent troops earlier, the Liang Country wouldn’t be forced to this point. Since you could abandon the country once, you could do so a second time… Say, how dare I entrust you with my life?”

In the end, the emperor of the Liang Country refused at first because Xian Sheng was a guy. If he sent his son over and someone exposed the truth, and Qin Yi went back on his words, the Liang Country would be targeted badly. If Qin Yi really had Xian Sheng in his heart, as long as the ‘princess’ was here, he’d stay still. Who knew that Qin Yi really watched as Zhan Lue advanced his way to the capital without doing anything.

Qin Yi kept quiet, revealing the anger in his eyes. Xian Sheng looked down and continued to brainwash him, “You’re the reason why the South Liang became North Jin’s subsidiary country. You’re the reason why I was forced to marry Zhan Lue while still sick…Now, you had hurt all these people in the name of protecting me. Do you really want the two countries to go to war, and let me commit suicide to apologize for all these offenses?”

“I can take you away.”

“Then what?” Xian Sheng said seriously, “The North Jin is powerful in terms of military, and even has control over the entire South Liang. You only have one city. How many soldiers could you have to compete against Zhan Lue? The Liang Country finally got the peace they yearned for. How many more lives are you going to sacrifice for me?”

“I don’t care…” Qin Yi pursed his lips, his gaze on Xian Sheng’s lips and the blood on his chest. Then, he suddenly looked down.

He only cared about Xian Sheng, his princess.

Xian Sheng pursed his lips and coughed, shifting his gaze tiredly, ignoring him.

The sky slowly got dark. Qin Yi personally brought him food. Zhan Yin had quietened down outside. It was unclear whether she was frightened or ran out of energy.

“Go get some food for Zhan Yin.” Xian Sheng said, and the servant subconsciously looked at Qin Yi. The latter said gloomily, “Did you not hear the princess’ order?”

It got quiet again. After a while, Xian Sheng heard cursing, and he wanted to laugh a bit.

The cold food was brought down, and warm food brought back in. This happened consecutively, but Xian Sheng refused to eat.

Qin Yi held natural respect to Xian Sheng, so he didn’t dare to force him. He just coaxed him and continued to tell the servants to bring in new food.

He heard wind blowing outside. Xian Sheng suddenly blinked his eyes and said, “There’s movement outside.”

“It’s just the wind. Princess, you don’t need to worry.” He paused before saying, “I will guard you.”

Xian Sheng listened for a while before knitting his brows. “It doesn’t sound right. Go take a look.”

Qin Yi listened to him, and walked out. He just walked to the yard to inquire when Xian Sheng heard the window being knocked open. He rushed in quickly and his expression changed. “Where’s the princess?”

The servants shook their heads, staring dumbfounded at the empty food. Qin Yi walked to the windows in large strides and picked up a piece of fabric that came from Xian Sheng’s clothes. The guard walked over and guessed, “Zhan Lue has incredible qinggong. Could it be that he already…”

Before he finished his words, he heard cries of slaughter. He Ermi dashed over and exclaimed, “Zhan Lue led the troops over and surrounded us. Castellan, we don’t have enough people. We can’t resist them. Quickly take the princess away!”

Qin Yi clutched his fingers tightly, his gaze swept across the empty room. He walked out and said coldly, “Go kill them.”

He walked into the secret passage and He Ermi unsheathed his sword, walking quickly towards the room Zhan Yin was locked in. The door was open. Zhan Yin’s face paled and she quickly backed up. A cold glint reflected from the sword, and she immediately lifted her hand to block the light. Suddenly, she heard crashes by her side. Zhan Yin’s heart skipped rapidly. She stared fixated, and tears flowed down her cheeks. “Jiang Qin! Where’s my brother?!”

Jiang Qin and He Ermi were in a battle, and he found the time to respond, “He went to look for the Crown Princess!”

Hearing this, He Ermi stooped zealously fighting, and left after tossing a mist bomb.

Jiang Qin waved his hands and brushed the mist away. After seeing the room that Zhan Yin was locked in, he was suddenly stunned. “Princess Qingrong is here too?”

“She was kidnapped with me.” Zhan Yin helped the limp Qingrong up. Jiang Qin noticed the blood traces on her left hand, and said shockingly, “She…”

“Those bastards picked the muscles in her hands. They said that if she wasn’t a girl, they would’ve broken her hand.”

“Why?”

Zhan Yin stared at Qingrong with a complicated expression. “I don’t know how she provoked Qin Yi.”

It wasn’t like Jiang Qin knew how to respond to this. He ordered people to bring them away and have a physician treat them. However, Zhan Yin followed. “How is royal sister-in-law?”

In the back, Qingrong slightly tilted her head and concealed the emotions in her eyes, quietly allowing people to help her away.

Zhan Lue quickly came back for them. He was comforted after confirming that Zhan Lue just looked battered, but wasn’t injured. He asked deeply, “Qin Yi’s gone. Where was Xian Sheng held?”

“I’m not locked up with her.” Zhan Yin worried: “Was she taken away by Qin Yi?”

Zhan Zhen pursed his lips, and his eyes fell on the main room in the middle. He strode over and pushed the door in. He followed the person who was looking under the bed.

Xian Sheng has just passed out for a short time. When he wakes up, he hears Zhan Zhen’s voice. Knowing that he’s coming to save people, he’s ready to come out. When he sees him halfway up, he feels embarrassed.

He was thinking about crawling back under the bed and waiting for Zhan Lue to save him.

Before he could react, there was a strange glint in Zhan Lue’s eyes. His heart tightened and he quickly walked over. He carefully carried him out and patted the dust on his face with his handkerchief. “You didn’t go with him?”

Xian Sheng looked up. “Why would I go with him?”

Zhan Lue stared at him, wanting to confirm something. There was a glimpse of happiness in his pitch-black eyes. “Why didn’t he take you away?”

Xian Sheng responded coolly, “Why do you think?”

Jiang Qin and Zhan Yin were confused, but the smile in Zhan Lue’s eyes deepened. “You hid when I was bringing people up the mountains, so it gave off the illusion that you were saved. Qin Yi was too busy to think carefully about this, so he thought you were actually saved. Therefore, you stayed here and waited for rescue.”

“…” If this guy had a tail, it’d be wagging. Xian Sheng found this a bit strange, but it didn’t interfere with the unhappiness in his heart.

Seeing that he wore a stiff face and said nothing, Zhan Lue covered him with a windbreaker and gently carried him. His gaze suddenly swept over the cold food on the table, and his eyes brightened.

“Princess, did you eat today?”

“No.”

Zhan Lue asked, clearly knowing the answer. “Did Qin Yi not feed you?”

Xian Sheng lifted his head from Zhan Lue’s arms, and he looked at him. His beautiful face didn’t bother to conceal the unhappiness. “Can you watch your way? Don’t drop me.”

The moment he finished, Zhan Lue suddenly tripped. Xian Sheng was startled and immediately lifted his arms to wrap around Zhan Lue’s neck, afraid that he’d throw him. Zhan Lue balanced himself and purposely said, “It’s princess’ fault for being too charming, causing me to almost trip.”

“You…” Xian Sheng glared at him, and Zhan Lue lifted him up some more. Pressing his face next to his, he said in a low voice, “I won’t be able to hold it in and kiss you if you keep looking at me like that.”

Xian Sheng shifted his gaze.

Zhan Lue ordered people to bring Zhan Yin back while he got in the same horse carriage as Xian Sheng. He closed his eyes to rest. He had experienced too much today, and he was rather exhausted. He originally was worried that Zhan Lue might hold him accountable. After all, Qin Yi was a Liang. Seeing that Zhan Lue treated him as usual, he gradually calmed down. The horse carriage swayed back and forth, and his body uncontrollably shifted to one side.

Zhan Lue immediately reached over and gently hugged him in his arms. His gaze landed on the blood on his chest, and his smile gradually faded. His expression became cold and thoughtful.

Yuehua and Ruyi’s body were drenched in cold sweat. They heard that Zhelong City was responsible for today’s event. Quite a few common people were injured and killed. Even Prince Zhan Hua was injured, and his conditions unknown. They were afraid that Zhan Lue might hold Xian Sheng accountable.

They paced around waiting. They finally saw Xian Sheng coming back, and they watched as the Crown Prince carried him down. Yuehua carefully observed Zhan Lue’s expression and followed behind. “The princess knows nothing about Qin Yi’s whereabouts.”

Zhan Lue glanced at her coldly, “Covering up will only make matters worse.”

Yuehua’s heart thumped. “The princess rarely leaves the room. You…”

“Quiet.” Zhan Lue carried Xian Sheng back to the room as the servants lit the lanterns ahead. He placed him on the bed and said, “Go grab a set of clean clothes.”

Xian Sheng was still unconscious. Ruyi and Yuehua looked at each other and quickly rummaged for his clothes. “This maid can do it.”

Zhan Lue was already reaching to undo the belt on Xian Sheng. Clearly, he was going to change clothes for his wife. He faintly ordered, “Go out and prepare some food. Leave it on the stove to keep it warm. That way, she won’t be hungry when she wakes up.”

Ruyi’s heart skipped. She held in her breath and glanced at Yuehua who was also panicking, eyeing her for help. Zhan Lue stopped and lifted his brows. “What? You think that I shouldn’t touch her either?”
